about lindsey

if this is you in the kitchen (perhaps seeking better use for those salad tossers), you came to the right blog.

welcome to a pear to remember, a resource for enthusiastic eaters bewildered by The Kitchen. a do-able, inspiring guide to time and budget-friendly foods for the novice and gourmet alike.

I love food, and not too long ago I found out I have a knack for making it. before college, I had never seen a garlic clove, a bell pepper, or real green beans. since getting married in 2008, I’ve found myself cooking a great deal. I spent three wonderful years working in elementary special education while completing grad school in George Mason University’s Nutrition and Food Studies program. as of June 2013, I am just beginning my dream career as the Nutrition Educator for a phenomenal food bank.

my love, Andrew, said to me recently: Why don’t you write more??

alas, I pursue my cooking adventures for now and conclude that journaling my saucepan-passions allows me to engage in the necessary discipline of writers. in 2009, I spent a memorable summer as Catering Manager at the Space Telescope Science Institute, proving a cultural food experience that taught me most things I know about exquisite culinary creations.

I love reading your recipe and cooking anecdotes. do leave your comments here on the blog. you can also get in touch with me by e-mail at apeartoremember@gmail.com.

also, I shoot with a Nikon D3100 and thank Steven DeFoliart profusely for the amusing photo above.

    Beautifully done website

Loved your site…great job! Interesting background.
I’ve known your father for 35 years and never realized that
    he was “veggephobic”.
Hope you can be a good influence on him.
    Keep up the great work.

    • Thank you, Vince!! You probably didn’t know he was a vegephobe because you two were likely enjoying burgers and fries and/or pieorgies!!!!! I never said he was afraid of Polish potatoes 😉

Hi Lindsey, my comment is not about your wonderful vegetarian cooking or your kitchen but about your statement on writing. I could not agree more with you and it seems to be a win/win scenario, when you like to write and on the topic of food, which you like as well.

    • Yes, MK, I am honestly here to feed my writer’s soul. I enjoy the writing process equally as much as the cooking process. In both, the act itself is more satisfying for me than the product.

Though I don’t mind eating or being pubslihed 😉

  5. Can’t wait to hear about your cattering gig you have coming up! Good luck! (PS What are you making?)

    • Thanks for the enthusiasm, Lauren!

I LOVE tartelettes, they definately say “special occassion” to me. I’m thinking I will fill bitesized tarts with caramelized onions, roasted pears, bleu cheese, creme fraiche, and chives with dried cranberry for a little garnish. Sounds like a lot to squish into a baby tart, but the flavors are the perfect combination, it must be done!!

The spa opening is for anyone, and is going to be a huge event. I will be posting very soon about the details!

  6. Hi! I found your blog through YHL and I love it! Shouldn’t be looking at food blogs this week though, since they took out my wisdom teeth I’m starving haha… but your food looks delicious!

    • Ainhoa,

I have been so enjoying your blog!!!! I also chuckle when I see your comments on YHL, as I’ve become such a devout fan I’m leaving comments left and right 😉

      Happy cooking and decorating!

    Hi Lindsay!
The blog looks great! All the photos are fantastic. I am very impressed by your writing/cooking/photography/blog design skills & you make me hungry.

  10. It was so great to see you the other day Lindsay!

PS Love your picture up here. Captures you perfectly!

    • Oh boy, to resist your invitation to stay and cook…!! The hubs and I hadn’t had an impromptu date in a while, and I doubt he would have had so much fun watching me cook in GMU’s fabulous new kitchen (because it’s all I do at home). It was so lovely to bump into your class, it simply made my night.

      • Mine too! I’m glad I finally got to meet your hubby. It’s only been a couple of years! Oh, and thanks for the comment on the facebook page…but being technically challenged as I am, I already messed it up and had to create a new one. Ha! (I haven’t changed much.) Here’s the new page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Vita-e-Pane/207488612656534 (keeping the fingers crossed that I can figure this one out better). Hope you’re feeling better!

Lindsey, great blog, and amazing recipes. I look forward to seeing if you like to cook with Quinoa. Have you checked out FarmPlate.com? I think you’d be great listed and featured on there. Check it out and keep up the great work/passion.

    • Thank you for your comment! I do cook with quinoa, and ask myself every time I do why I make it so infrequently! I have a fun quinoa dish with cranberries and feta and edamame I must photograph upon the next making. Thanks for the inspiration!
